Opening in the tumultuous year of 1861 as the Civil War is enveloping the country, the story follows the life of Lizzy Rogers, an orphaned girl working in the rough environment of a military fort on the expanding frontiers of the West. As she grows and changes Lizzy must face many challenges, from looking out for herself and her friends, to the daily hardships of pioneer life, conflict with Native Americans, social and political turmoil, and the harsh climate of the West, but she always manages to retain her spunk and courage.
Sharing the spotlight are Lizzy’s most important friends – loyal, hot-headed Andrew Black, Kansas farmers Jackson and Veronica Marsh, the unhappy Brown family, the wild, mysterious Pony Express rider Edwin Hollows, and sweet Isabel Johnson, as well as the four-footed companions, Dicksey Red the feisty Indian pony, and the faithful watchdog Ol’ Hound. And as the series unfolds, you will be introduced to many more!
